I have just finished it and I have to say I am pretty disappointed I came away on holiday with three books to read: This juhgle observant, keenly funny comedy of manners is Bushnell at her most sassy and entertaining.
With an unforgettable cast of characters, “The Carrie Diaries” is the story of how a regular girl learns to think for herself, and evolves into a sharp, insightful writer. One of the more poignant moments – and there are one or two – is when one of the characters questions what you actually do with all this money you can’t spend. Open Preview See a Problem? While the same familiar characters are there harried Wendy, cool calm Nico, and cute Victorythey seem a lot lipstcik career-focused and more ruthless than their TV show counterparts. Canddace was trying to stress the importance of girl power these days, she couldn’t just drop the subject that women couldn’t live without men, no matter how powerful they are – which actually contradicts the whole theme.
Nico is a ruthless publishing executive in a loveless marriage. But here, sadly, Bushnell falls back on blogspeak: It begins with fashion week where her spring line goes outside the normal game and puts her on the outs with the department stores.
For once, men—how to get them, how to keep them—aren’t Bushnell’s lkpstick focus, and her three main characters, all women in their early 40s, are surely her richest to date. Meanwhile, time was marching on, and all that was happening to her was that she was getting older and smaller, and one day she would be no bigger lipstck a dot, and then she would simply disappear. Because what self-respecting year-old doesn’t devour this book in like 72 hours.

Nico O’Neilly is the glamorous, brilliant editor of Bonfire Magazine –the pop-culture bible for fashion, show business, and politics. The problems mentioned above ultimately make this book average. Whether that was Bushnell’s intent when crafting this wicked tale is another story. Victory Ford, a famous designer, Nico O’Neilly, a famous magazine editor eventually CEOWendy Healy director of a film production company and an unimportant blonde babe actress whose name I have already forgotten.

Lists with This Book. Now I begin to wonder why dildo was created in the first place, eh? Summer and the City Summer is a magical time in New York City and Carrie is in love with all of it—the crazy characters in her neighborhood, the vintage-clothing boutiques, the wild parties, and the glamorous man who has swept her off her feet.
Sure, some parts annoyed me but it’s a nice refreshment to see women with money, power, and choices.

Contemporary celebrities are name-checked throughout, but only one throwaway reference gives a clue that these characters have ever read any part of a newspaper other than the gossip columns: Want to Read saving…. Wendy, Nico, and Victory are not a cohesive unit. Not great but much better than Sex and the City.
All three pull back-stabbing career moves that would make Bonfire of the Vanities’ Sherman McCoy suck in his breath and tut. I couldn’t find a single male character here who wasn’t a parasite, a cop-out, a jerk, a smooth-talker, a himbo, a nonentity or a loon.

It’s not the type of book I typically read, but it was a nice change of pace. I am a big fan of the Lipstick Jungle TV series and was interested to see wh I was very happy to find that this novel is not your typical chick-lit book and not at all like the Sex and the City novel which I found jarring and strange.
And while fashion designer Victory Ford may date a Mr. Expect a splashy debut, followed by a long run of sales. Whatever happened to equality? Get fast, free shipping with Amazon Prime. Apart from that, I hate chapters that are 25 pages long.
